Laser-cut acrylic front panel with cutouts for switches and displays – CAESS Laser Switzerland.
Applications · Front panels

Front panels in acrylic and plastics with precise cutouts, clean engravings and accurate contours.

For equipment manufacturers, control engineering and device builders, front panels are central: they must fit exactly into enclosures, be clearly labelled and remain permanently legible in operation. CAESS Laser cuts and engraves front panels in acrylic, two-layer plastics and technical sheet materials up to 800 × 500 mm – toolless, reproducible and from quantity one.

Why CO2 laser front panels outperform conventional milling

Front panels for devices, control cabinets and operator panels demand high standards of dimensional accuracy, edge quality and engraving sharpness. The CO2 laser combines cutting and engraving in a single operation – no re-fixturing, no tool changes, no subsequent printing. This reduces lead times and makes even single pieces economical.

Geometry & fit accuracy

Cutouts, hole patterns and contours from a single file

Front panels often contain dozens of functional openings in a confined space: rectangular cutouts for display instruments, round holes for pushbuttons, slots for sliders and free-form contours for connectors. The CO2 laser executes all geometries in a single pass – directly from the DXF or PDF drawing, without separate tooling per opening type. With tolerances of ±0.1 mm, cutouts fit standard components such as 22.5 mm pushbuttons, D-Sub connector cutouts or standard displays. Rework is rarely necessary.

  • Rectangular, round and free-form cutouts
  • Accurate fit for common standard components
  • All geometries in a single pass

Labelling & identification

Engravings directly into the surface – permanently legible, no labels

Front panels require markings that remain clearly legible after years in service: function labels, scales, warning symbols, company logos and position numbers. The CO2 laser engraves this information directly into the material surface or into the top layer of two-layer plastics. On two-layer engraving laminates (e.g. black/white or black/yellow), the laser exposes the underlying contrast layer. The result is permanent, scratch-resistant and independent of labels or prints that peel off in industrial use.

  • Function labels and scale markings
  • Logos, symbols and warning pictograms
  • Scratch-resistant engravings in two-layer laminates

Material & surface

From transparent acrylic to technical engraving laminate

The right front panel material depends on the application environment. For covers and viewing windows, transparent or satin-finish acrylic (PMMA) with flame-polished cut edges is ideal. For labelled operator panels and device fronts, two-layer plastics combine contrast with mechanical resistance. CAESS Laser processes standard front panel materials up to 800 × 500 mm: cast acrylic (clear, opal, satin, coloured), engraving laminate in various colour combinations, ABS, polycarbonate sheet and technical plastics.

  • Acrylic (PMMA): clear, opal, satin, coloured
  • Two-layer engraving laminate plastics
  • ABS, polycarbonate and technical plastics

What matters technically for front panels

Cutting and engraving in a single operation

Conventional front panel manufacture requires two separate processes: first milling, then printing or engraving. The CO2 laser combines both. This saves a clamping step, reduces positional errors between contour and labelling, and shortens the lead time from data submission to finished part.

Economical from batch size one

With no milling tools, printing plates or screens required, the laser process is economical even for single pieces, prototypes and small series. Changes to geometry or labelling require only an updated file – no new tooling.

Reproducible for repeat orders and series

Once a front panel is approved, the laser job can be repeated identically. File version, material batch and process parameters are documented. Repeat orders deliver the same result as the first order – without fresh setup and without deviations between batches.

Request front panels

Do you have a drawing, hole pattern or initial sketch for your front panel?

Send material, quantity and drawing – CAESS Laser checks feasibility, material selection and the most economical manufacturing route for your front panel. Even without a finished drawing, a sketch or dimensions are sufficient for an initial assessment. Enquiries are answered within 24 hours.
